New Macs and the Future of Work
M2, M2 Pro, Mac Mini, MacBook Pro, plus what I learned about future of work at CES 2023.
Meet the new Macs
Apple kicked off the year with a couple of Mac updates, adding M2 , M2 Pro and M2 Max chips (the latter two making their debut appearance) to the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini.
I especially love the unassuming Mini, which might be Apple’s longest-standing product line — it started in 2005 and has kept the same name and much of the same look all this time. The full reviews are linked below, but note that at $599, the base Mac Mini is by far the least-expensive way to get a MacOS system.

What CES 2023 showed me about the future of work
Going back to the massive CES tech trade show in person for the first time in three years was eye-opening. Shows like this, and frankly everything we see and read about how businesses are operating in a pandemic-changed world, all point to one lasting shift: We’re working in new ways, and there’s no going back.
This topic is more broadly referred to as “the future of work,” but it’s really the present. Not just hybrid and remote work, but also a gold rush of new tools and services to minimize the shortcomings of Zoom meetings from your bedroom.
If there’s an actual business model for the metaverse concept that makes sense, it’s not going to be in recreating the cubicle-and-conference-room vibe of the 1990s-2020 office, but in creating something new that replaces some of what we’ve lost, while finding fresh ways to collaborate at a distance.
